NARRATIVE INTRODUCTION

Proper outdoor ethics to minimize impacts to the environment is the root and hallmark of his advocacy, which is fundamentally hinged on the Leave No Trace principles, or LNT.

A trained mountaineer based in Manila, Philippines, he has been sharing Leave No Trace principles across the Philippines since 2012 through quick talks, awareness workshops and trainer courses.

In 2016, he was joined by a team of volunteers in travelling across the Philippines via the Leave No Trace Caravan to promote and share proper outdoor ethics. Designed as a mobile education project, the Caravan delivered fun, interactive Leave No Trace awareness workshops in such places as Naga City, Subic, Silay, to name a few. When Covid restrictions eased in 2022, he resurrected the Caravan to continue what was left in 2016. Since September 2022, the Caravan has since hopped and criss-crossed to Cebu, Negros Oriental, Tarlac, Rizal and Manila.

In 2018, he completed his Leave No Trace Master Educator course on the Great Smoky Mountain Range, which straddles North Carolina and Tennesses in the US, via a partial scholarship grant provided by US-based Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, with assistance from the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC). The five-day top-tier training course marked as a culmination of his effort to learn LNT towards an aim to impart the knowledge to the Philippine outdoor community.

Driven by his personal prerogative to develop LNT educators in the Philippines, he has organized and continues to organize Leave No Trace Trainer Courses, a two-day training activity designed to teach techniques and methodologies for educating others about Leave No Trace. Previous sessions of this course saw participants trekking Mount Natib in Bataan and Mount Tangisan in Tarlac in the Philippines for a real-life learning and teaching experiences.

Known as Mister LNT in the Philippine mountaineering community, he pursues his Leave No Trace endeavors mainly on weekends. During the week, when not in the outdoors, he works full time in a Manila-based private company.
